The Alt Emporda is one of the most densely populated areas of the megaliths of Catalonia, especially in the form of dolmens and menhirs. With more than 160 monuments alone in the region of the Alt Emporda, these are more than 25% of the megalithic wealth which is distributed over the whole Catalonia.

Near the village of Roses, there are a lot of Neolithic tombs of various types. It is the remains of funeral rituals, from the first inhabitants of the region. In the area of El Turó de la Torre del Sastre you will find the most, of these graves. There are among others the Dolmen Cross Cobertella Dolmen (3000 -2700 BC), one of the largest dolmen in Catalonia of this kind, consisting of four-ton plates. This monument was placed in 1964 under monument protection.

Furthermore, there can visit the Llit de la Generala (3200 BC), the Cista del Pla de les Gates, the Cap de l’Home, the menhirs del Mas Marès and the house Cremada.

The Tourist Office of Roses organizes guided tours, which takes about three hours. Roses is working to improve the megalithic route of the city and its natural surroundings better. Regarding characterized, the community has marked three new routes and there are still 10 routes more expected to follow. The municipality of Roses organizes every year in May, a nighttime moon hike to the Dolmen.

For the more adventurous there exist a megalithic route with a total distance of 48 km, whichbegins in Roses, at the dolmen Cobertella. This route leads to the Jonquera, past Vilajuïga, Vilamaniscle, Espolla and Sant Climent.
