In Roses you will find all the typical products of the region Empordà. Among the most important confectionery of Empordà are the Bunyols, a kind of rounded Catalan Donut, which are coated with sugar and anise. It is a traditional dessert which is eaten during the Carnival and Easter. You can find this product in all bakeries and confectioneries of Roses.

In the center of town is one of the oldest bakery. Can Cairo is one of the oldest family’s bakeries of Roses. The family recipes with Belgian influence, make the products of the pastry so unique. The pastry of chocolates produced from the family Cairo themself are called “Cairons”: These pastry are small Belgian chocolate pieces flavored with almonds, hazelnuts or gianduja, furthermore their produce “Magdalena de Piu Piu” (cupcakes) and the “Rocs de Montjoi” (chocolates made with hazelnut paste, egg whites, sugar and cocoa powder).

Sweet Butifarra” sausage

This is a traditional product of the region Empordà, also known under the name morcilla dulce. Originally the sweetened pudding dates back to the fourteenth century. Earlier this sausage was produced during the slaughter and eaten. Nowadays, you can find the product throughout the year, although it is eaten during the Easter period.

Stuffed apples

The stuffed apples are a typical dish from Empordà, arise in the Baroque period. This is a brand product of our region. The municipality of Vilabertran is dedicated to court every year in September an event.

The honey

In Roses and the Empordà honey is produced for many years. The Beekeepers numerous colonies in different places spread all over the Empordà and produce a natural honey with different flavors, most of lavender, rosemary, orange or thyme flowers. As this trade is a natural honey, the honey crystallizes after some time, as opposed to the pasteurized honey from the supermarket.
